Terms of use

These terms cover how you use RunRoutes, the running route app for iPhone, Apple Watch and Android. They are written to be read, not to catch you out. By using the app you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains what the app collects and how to delete it, and it forms part of these terms.

Last updated: 18 October 2026

Who we are

RunRoutes is made by Softomic, an independent software studio based in the Netherlands. When these terms say "we" or "us" they mean Softomic, and "you" means the person using the app. You can reach us at tom@softomic.nl with any question about the app or these terms.

What RunRoutes does

You pick a distance and RunRoutes builds a running loop that starts and ends at the same place, along real streets and paths. You can run it with spoken turn by turn guidance on your phone or on your watch, draw your own route by hand, keep routes for later, and send any route to another app or watch as a file. It also includes run walk interval workouts and a nine week beginner running program. You do not need an account to generate your first route.

Accounts, and using the app without one

You can use RunRoutes without an account: your first generated route needs no sign in and no payment details. If you choose to sign in, you do so with your Apple or Google account, and you are responsible for keeping access to that account secure. You can turn on syncing to keep your routes and history across your devices, or leave it off and keep everything on your phone. The privacy policy explains the difference. You can delete your account, and the data tied to it, at any time from within the app.

Subscriptions and purchases

Your first two routes are free. After that, RunRoutes Pro removes the limit and unlocks the full set of workouts and the full beginner program. Pro is offered as a subscription that renews on a set schedule, or as a single payment for lifetime access. The current prices, and the price for your country, are shown in the app before you buy, and you confirm the purchase in the store.

Purchases are handled by the app store you downloaded RunRoutes from: the App Store on Apple devices, or Google Play on Android devices. Billing, receipts and payment methods are managed by that store, not by us, and we never see your card details.

  • Renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown when you bought it, until you cancel. A single lifetime payment does not renew and has nothing to cancel.
  • Cancelling. You cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings, not inside RunRoutes. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Pro until the period you already paid for runs out.
  • Refunds. Because the store takes the payment, refunds are handled by the store under its own policy, so you request one through Apple or Google. We are glad to help if you are stuck, but we cannot issue a store refund ourselves.

If a purchase does not unlock Pro, or unlocks it on one device but not another, email us and we will put it right.

Using the app fairly

RunRoutes is for your own ordinary use. Please do not try to break into it, overload it, copy or resell it, remove or get around the limits on the free version, or use it to do anything unlawful. If the app is seriously or repeatedly misused we may limit or end access to it, and we will explain why when we can.

Routes are suggestions, and you stay in charge

A route from RunRoutes is a suggestion, not an instruction. We build it from map data, and map data is never perfect: a path may be private, closed, flooded, under construction, unlit, unsafe after dark, or simply gone. We do not check any route against the conditions on the ground, and we cannot promise that a route is open, legal to run, or safe.

You are responsible for where you run. Look where you are going, follow traffic rules and signs, judge for yourself whether a path is safe for you at that time of day, and turn back when something is wrong. Do not follow guidance into traffic or anywhere it would be dangerous to go. Your own eyes and judgement always come before the app.

RunRoutes is not health or medical advice

RunRoutes is a running app, not a medical device and not a source of medical advice. Any training plan, pace or distance it suggests is general and is not tailored to your health. Running carries risk. If you are not sure whether it is safe for you to run, or you have a health condition, speak to a doctor before you start, and stop and seek help if you feel unwell.

What belongs to whom

The RunRoutes app, its name, its look and the software behind it belong to Softomic. These terms let you use the app; they do not transfer any ownership to you. Routes you draw or save, and the record of the runs you complete, stay yours. By using the features that store or sync them you allow us to hold and process that data only to provide the app, as the privacy policy describes.

The maps RunRoutes builds routes on are based on data from OpenStreetMap, made by its contributors and shared under the Open Database License. The map shown on screen is provided by Apple. We are grateful to the people who keep those maps accurate.

Our responsibility, and its limits

We work to keep RunRoutes useful and dependable, but we provide it as it is. We cannot promise it will be free of faults, available without interruption, or suited to every purpose you have in mind. As far as the law of the Netherlands allows, we are not liable for loss or damage that comes from using the app, from relying on a route, or from the app being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app grows or the law changes. When we do, we update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant we will make it clear in the app rather than quietly publish it here. If you keep using RunRoutes after a change, that means you accept the updated terms.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands. Any dispute we cannot settle together may be brought before the competent court in the Netherlands. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in.
